NEVES, Nuno; FREIRE, Marco; DIAS, Susana    RIBEIRO, Nuno. Development and Exploitation of a Spatial Data Model for Forest Planning. []. , 16, Especial, pp.1-16. ISSN 0870-6352.

The production of spatial information in forest planning can be systemically integrated in a geographic modelling perspective in a wide set of structural, geoprocessing and spatial analytical processes. The creation of a spatial data model supports the creation of a biophysical and socio-economic characterization and evaluation system, intended to serve as a framework in planning actions. A spatial data model in geographic information systems was developed oriented to forest planning and management. The design and physical implementation of the spatial data model considered the following aspects: The land features or geographic scenery, or even spatial descriptions related to needed phenomena to accurately represent the system under study; The spatial data model that must be used to manage and represent those spatial features; The particular set of instructions and information (data structure) that will be needed to implement the data model; The analytical set of processes to implement and their formalization.
