FERREIRA, Alfredo Gonçalves; GONCALVES, Ana Cristina    DIAS, Susana Saraiva. Sustainability Evaluation in Forest Systems as Function of Erosion. []. , 16, Especial, pp.55-67. ISSN 0870-6352.

The sustainability of a system depends on its capacity of not overcoming the resilience of each of its components. So the risk of erosion, susceptibility and soil loss tolerance evaluates the soil resilience against the erosion agents, and measures the system productive potential. From the Universal Soil Loss Equation a soil erosion risk model was developed, and later implemented considering the soil loss tolerance according to FAO methodology, which takes in account soil depth and parent material characteristics, using a geographic information system. This development resulted in a methodology that evaluates the forest system sustainability based on soil and forest cover characteristics. This allowed to measure the forest systems productive potential.

: sustainability; forest system; soil characteristics; erosion risk; resilience.
