^lpt^aA resposta ao desafio para uma intervenção no 9º Encontro Nacional Protecção Integrada subordinada a uma leitura do mundo (técnico-científico) da Protecção Integrada (PI) sob a óptica do desenvolvimento rural enraiza-se em duas problemáticas da sociedade portuguesa: a premência em aumentar a produção de bens transaccionáveis (competitividade); e, diante da progressiva dissociação da população com o campo agrícola e ou florestal, o refazer das relações da sociedade com o espaço (ordenamento do território). Neste quadro, revisitam-se conceitos e reflecte-se sobre: (i) que perspectiva do desenvolvimento rural pode coadjuvar na superação daquelas problemáticas? (ii) que pode advir do mundo da PI para tal perspectiva? Capta-se o contributo do mundo da PI: para a competitividade, pelo lado da inovação tecnológica (o impacto económico, no tempo, do consumo de produtos fitossanitários); e, depois, ancorando o desenvolvimento rural no território, para a indução, por meio da inovação organizacional, de estratégias de eficiência colectiva.^len^aThe answer to the challenge of intervening in the 9th IPM National Meeting, subordinated to a reading of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) "world" (technical-scientific) framed by a rural development perspective, is rooted in two issues of the Portuguese society: the urgent need to increase the production of tradable goods (competitiveness), and, given the progressive dissociation of the population and the agricultural field and forest, the remaking of the relations between society and space (territorial planning). In this context, concepts are revisited and reflected upon: (i) can a rural development perspective assist in overcoming those problems? (ii) what may come from the IPM "world" for such perspective? The contribution to the competitiveness of the IPM "world" is captured through technological innovation (the economic impact, along time, of plant protection products consumption). Also, the IPM “world”, when anchoring the rural development in the territory, contributes to induce strategies of collective efficiency, through organizational innovation.
