^lpt^aA Agronomia nasceu como ciência, da integração de várias disciplinas científicas, das crescentes necessidades tecnológicas e ainda da interacção resultante do ensino agrícola ao longo do século XIX. Apesar de muito bem sucedida, encontra-se hoje numa encruzilhada como resultado do método utilizado - o princípio do factor limitante: as ciências que lhe deram origem parecem seguir rotas centrífugas. É necessário voltar à integração disciplinar e a análise de sistemas parece ser o método mais adequado, reforçando, ao mesmo tempo, as competências de observação da realidade e de capacidade de juízo que permitem que o conhecimento científico possa sustentar a decisão operativa.^len^aAgronomy was born as a science integrating several scientific disciplines, growing technological needs and from the interaction resulting born in agricultural schools created along the whole XIX century. Although very successful, it finds herself in a crossroad as a result of the method used - the limiting factor principle: the sciences that are in its origin seem to be following a centrifugal road. It is necessary to go back to integration and systems analysis seems to be the most adequate method, strengthening at the same time, skills or reality observation and judgment capacity to allow that the scientific knowledge might support the operative decisions.
