^lpt^aA sustentabilidade económica, ambiental e social das explorações pecuárias é uma preocupação implícita na política agrícola europeia, nomeadamente, a mitigação dos efeitos das alterações climáticas. Nos Açores, em que a agricultura, principalmente a produção de leite, é uma atividade muito relevante para o desenvolvimento arquipelágico, a sustentabilidade da atividade pecuária é muito importante e urge a existência de políticas e programas que a promovam. Desde a década de 80, a interação entre agricultura e ambiente ganhou importância na União Europeia. Os programas comunitários, PRORURAL+ e POSEI, específicos para os Açores, têm sido os instrumentos que têm permitido fomentar as práticas agrícolas na Região, bem como providenciar a sustentabilidade ambiental e económica do setor agrícola. Neste trabalho, inventariam-se os estudos feitos nos Açores, envolvendo as temáticas ambiente e agricultura (produção de leite). Numa primeira parte contextualiza-se a agricultura, apresentando-se como as políticas agrícolas aplicadas nos Açores potenciam, ou não, a preservação ambiental e a sustentabilidade das explorações agrícolas. Numa segunda secção, aborda-se a influência dos intervenientes neste contexto, analisando-se as atitudes e comportamentos dos açorianos face ao ambiente e à agricultura, no espaço rural. Finalmente apresentam-se casos da realidade agrícola açoriana e as perspetivas futuras para a sua consolidação nos Açores. A aplicação da política agrícola comum aparenta ser insuficiente para a adoção pelos agricultores açorianos das medidas de índole ambiental.^len^aFarm’s economic, environmental and social sustainability is an implicit concern in European agricultural policy, in particular to mitigate the effects of climate change. In the Azores, where agriculture, mainly the production of milk, is quite an important activity for the archipelago development, maintaining its sustainability, it requires urgent policies and programs to promote it. Since the 1980s, the interaction between agriculture and environment has reached a high level of importance in the European Union. Community programs, PRORURAL+ and POSEI, specifically designed and directed for the Azores, have been the instruments which allowed promoting agricultural practices in the region and provide environmental and economic sustainability of the agricultural sector. In this paper, the researches made in the Azores are listed, involving both environment and agriculture subjects. First of all, it is contextualized whether agriculture, presenting itself as the agricultural policies applied in the Azores, potentiate or not environmental conservation and sustainability of farms. In a second section, the influence of stakeholders in this context is discussed, analysing the attitudes and behaviours of the Azorean people towards the environment and agriculture, in rural areas. Finally, some cases-study of the Azorean agricultural reality and future prospects for its relationship in the Azores are presented.
