GOMES ALMEIDA, Wolney    CRUZ-SANTOS, Anabela. Bilingual education for the deaf in Brazil and Portugal: A systematic review of the literature. []. , 35, 2, pp.332-355.   02--2022. ISSN 0871-9187.  https://doi.org/10.21814/rpe.21270.

This paper aims to identify scientific production on bilingual education for the deaf in Brazil and Portugal, taking into account the recognition of the sign languages and the public policies aimed at a bilingual model of deaf education. Portugal and Brazil have similarities regarding the recognition of their sign languages (PSL - Portuguese Signal Language and Libras - Brazilian Sign Language) and regarding the presence of legal regulations that recommend bilingual assistance to the deaf. To identify the scientific literature in this area, a search was carried out in the following databases: DOAB, SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science and Wiley InterScience, having as search keywords: bilingual education, deaf and deafness. It is concluded that the low number of papers published in recognized journals on bilingual education in Brazil and Portugal may reflect the recent development of education policies for the deaf in both countries, as well as the recent mark of the social movements of the deaf inclusion processes in educational spaces throughout its history. After identifying the published works, this search proved to be relevant regarding the need to expand the production of knowledge in the field of bilingual education for the deaf, not only because of the importance of discussing public policies in educational settings, but also because it allows to analyze issues related to best teaching practices for an effectively inclusive education.
