Videofluoroscopy (VFS) is considered the best resource for evaluation of swallowing disorders. Their introduction allowed a better understanding of the physiology of swallowing and the alterations consequent of diseases that cause dysphagia. Although the test is easy to perform, requires training and experience. The main advantages of videofluoroscopy are: the results are subject to further analysis, objective measurement in computerized program and the possibility of immediate and accurate analysis of swallowing in different positions, bolus volumes and bolus consistencies. Among the disadvantages are: exposure to radiation, use of barium contrast, and subjectivity in the analysis by the examiners. It is an essential examination in a clinic that investigates, diagnoses and treats patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia.
