The advent of globalization has influenced the educational sector, particularly teachers, who experience an accumulation of functions together with low pay, implying a noticeable fall in their quality of life. The aim of the study was to assess the Quality of Life of teachers of daytime and nighttime sessions at municipal institution of elementary education in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil, using the Short Form-36 questionnaire; this was a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study, conducted in September 2010. The main results show that: 90.00% of respondents were female, aged 40-49 years (43.46%), and had been elementary school teachers for 10 to 19 years (47.86%). In terms of domains, those in the daytime sessions had the lowest score for vitality (60.00), followed by mental health (69.20), while for those in the nighttime sessions, who had the best scores, limitations in the emotional (66.83%) and social aspects (72.91%) had the highest scores; the other domains in the two sessions performed above 70.00%. These data can serve as indicators of the vitality, emotional and social scores for quality of life and health, in particular of women teachers in basic education, as they made up the greatest numbers in the population studied.
