Background: Job satisfaction (JS) is associated with quality in organizations, so its evaluation is essential to create support policies and structures. Objective: To analyze the job satisfaction of nurses in a local health unit. Methodology: Descriptive, analytical study with observational and transversal design, of the quantitative type. The Professional Satisfaction Assessment Instrument (PSAI) was used for data collection. Results: Sample (n = 218), predominantly female (84.6%), with a mean age of 33 years, presenting a total JS of 66.6%. The most satisfied have between 21-30 years of service. However, in terms of salary, the youngest (22-34 years), single, with a shorter period of service (= 5 years), nurse category, and who provide 36-45 hours of care per week, are the most satisfied. Conclusion: Nurses have a regular JS, which is related to age, family situation, professional category, workload, and, mainly, to the years of service.
