The author analysis the «approaches to learning» model. This model illustrates the congruency between motivational pattern and type of strategy used in student learning. The three identified approaches are analysed. They consubstantiate an interaction between a motivation that can be either «based in a fear of failure», «intrinsic» or «based in a hope for sucess» and a strategy either «superficial», «deep» or «achiever».
