DUQUE, Alexandra Freches    NEVES, Pedro Gante. Inmates' Self-Mutilation: Avaliation of Personality Disorders. []. , 5, 2, pp.215-227. ISSN 1645-0086.

Abstract- The self-mutilation behaviour assumes a great impact in the life of the patient, who self-mutilates himself; however, it is not possible to find a consensus among authors in what concerns the causes of self-mutilation behaviour. Although with similar characteristics, the self-mutilation behaviours, in a prison environment, seem to assume certain particularities, which are the consequence of the characteristics of the environment, in which they are. The present article describes the results reached in a comparative study among inmates with antecedents of self-mutilation behaviour (30 individuals) and prisoners having no antecedents of self-injury (30 individuals), that has had the aim to evaluate the importance of personality disorders for the facilitation of these behaviours. So, at present, there have been detected differences with statistic meaning for eight of the twenty two clinic scales of MCMI-II. This way, the results alert to the existence of a facilitator relationship between the existence of Personality Disorders, such as "Avoiding", "Schizothypic" and "Borderline" and the self-mutilation behaviour.
