The incidence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a topic that is rarely addressed in the scientific literature in Brazil, mainly related to traumatic diseases like breast cancer. This study was conducted with 20 women who had mastectomies and revealed the incidence of PTSD in 20% of this sample, using a scale CAPS (Clinician Administered PTSD scale), the IES (impact of events scale) and SOS (Significant Other Scale) was also carried out a semi-structured interview to check the history of the disease and its impact on physical and social. The family was reported as the primary social support network, followed by the partner, friends, church and health professionals. Assistance psychology presents itself majority in the postoperative period. There was then a big gap to be worked by professional psychologist in a preventative manner with respect to the trauma generated by breast cancer according to the health ministry is the type of cancer incidence among brazilian women.
