The aim of this theoretical article is to highlight and discuss current knowledge concerning the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) during working and non-working hours and the consequential development of burnout and its implications in interpersonal relations and in family life. Here, we address how the pervasiveness of ICT might impact interpersonal relationships and, consequently, family and other close relations, directly or indirectly undermining mental health. In a time of great investment in ICT driven by COVID-19 crisis, we should take the time to analyze if this digital migration opportunity, is not, after all, a constraint. In our view, the issue of ICT overuse does not solely impact mental and family health, but also impacts social health, as the “fear of missing out” promotes ICT pervasiveness, while reducing interpersonal interaction opportunities. We leave some points for reflection in this moment of change and digital investment.
