O presente estudo buscou evidências de validade baseadas na relação com outras variáveis (autorregulação emocional) para a Escala de Forças de Caráter-Breve (EFC-Breve) e identificou possíveis diferenças de acordo com características sociodemográficas dos respondentes. Participaram 627 pessoas com idades entre 18 e 73 anos (M= 35,33; DP= 12,27; 66,19% mulheres) das cinco regiões do Brasil. Os participantes responderam à EFC-Breve e à Escala de Autorregulação Emocional-Adulto (EARE-AD). Foram identificadas correlações significativas entre todos os fatores da EFC-Breve e da EARE-AD (r variando entre 0,09 e 0,60), sendo que o fator estratégias de enfrentamento da EARE-AD apresentou as maiores magnitudes de associação com os fatores da EFC-Breve. Os homens apresentaram médias mais elevadas que as mulheres nos dois instrumentos. As forças de caráter e a autorregulação emocional possuem elementos comuns que afirmam evidências de validade para a EFC-Breve. Considera-se que a EFC-Breve possui propriedades psicométricas adequadas e a quantidade de itens facilitaria a aplicação do instrumento em contextos distintos.

The present study sought evidence of validity based on the relationship with other variables (emotional self-regulation) for the Scale of Character Strengths-Brief (SCS-Brief) and identified possible differences according to the sociodemographic characteristics of the respondents. The sample consisted of 627 people aged between 18 and 73 years (M = 35.33; SD = 12.27; 66.19% women) from the five regions of Brazil. Participants answered the SCS-Brief and the Emotional Self-Regulation Scale-Adult (ESRS-AD). Significant correlations were identified between all the factors of the SCS-Brief and the ESRS-AD (r ranging between 0.09 and 0.60), with the factor coping strategies of the ESRS-AD showing the highest magnitudes of association with the factors of the SCS-Brief. Men had higher averages than women in both instruments. Character strengths and emotional self-regulation have common elements that affirm evidence of validity for the SCS-Brief. The SCS-Brief is considered has adequate psychometric properties and number of items would facilitate the application of the instrument in different contexts.
