ANTUNES, Rita; GUEDES, Maryse; ALEXANDRE, Joana    VERISSIMO, Manuela. Psychologists’ perceptions of acceptability about a new socio-emotional learning program. []. , 22, 2, pp.374-389.   31--2021. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/21psd220205.

Social and emotional learning programs have shown benefits for children who display hyperactivity disorder and attention deficit. However, few available programs are specifically targeted at children who display this type of neurodevelopmental disorder. To answer current limitations in this intervention area, this study aimed to explore the perceptions of Portuguese psychologists about the acceptability of a new intervention targeted at the promotion of socioemotional skills. Nineteen participants, specialized in Clinical and/or Educational Psychology, with prior experience in intervening with children and adolescents, were distributed in four focus groups. The focus groups were conducted by a trained moderator, using a semi-structured interview guide. Globally, the results of the deductive thematic analysis showed that Portuguese psychologists perceptions that the dynamics, contents and materials were acceptable, suggesting only minor modifications: (1) promote the generalization of the learning skills to other naturalistic contexts, (2) monitor children’s progress across time and (3) take into account developmental specificities and practical barriers in the involvement of parents and teachers during the implementation of the intervention program.
