Este estudo buscou compreender os sentimentos vivenciados por profissionais de saúde acometidos pelo fenômeno fadiga por compaixão na assistência a pacientes com câncer em hospitais de referência localizados na região norte do estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Foi realizada pesquisa descritiva de cunho qualitativo com abordagem fenomenológica de análise Husserliana. A amostra intencional foi identificada por levantamento prévio da variável fadiga por compaixão nos profissionais de saúde dos setores oncológicos pela aplicação do instrumento Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL5). Foram identificados 20 profissionais com o fenômeno que, em seguida, foram entrevistados com roteiro não estruturado para investigação do objeto deste estudo. A seguir, procedeu-se à análise do conteúdo das falas. Os resultados foram apresentados e discutidos a partir das seguintes categorias: Dor, Angústia e Compaixão; Apego e Empatia; Sofrimento e Mecanismos de Defesa; Ambivalência Afetiva e Satisfação e Ressignificação. São diversos os sentimentos mobilizados nos profissionais em suas ações de cuidado aos pacientes com câncer. Os sentimentos não exprimem apenas pontos negativos como determinantes da experiência do lidar e cuidar, há também sentimentos positivos capazes de produzir satisfação e ressignificação dos profissionais.

This study sought to understand the feelings experienced by health professionals affected by the phenomenon fatigue due to compassion in the care of cancer patients in reference hospitals located in the northern region of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A descriptive qualitative research was conducted with phenomenological approach to Husserlian analysis. The intentional sample was identified by a previous survey of the variable compassion fatigue in health professionals in the cancer sectors by applying the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL5) instrument. Twenty professionals were identified with the phenomenon who were then interviewed with an unstructured script to investigate the object of this study. Next, the contents of the statements were analyzed. The results were presented and discussed from the following categories: Pain, Anguish and Compassion; Attachment and Empathy; Suffering and Defense Mechanisms; Affective Ambivalence and Satisfaction and Resignification. There are several feelings mobilized in professionals in their actions of care for cancer patients. Feelings not only express negative points as determinants of the experience of dealing and caring, there are also positive feelings capable of producing satisfaction and resignification of professionals.
