^lpt^aEste artigo tem como objetivo analisar a importância do Caminho de Ferro de Benguela (CFB) para o desenvolvimento regional em Angola, em particular no seu Planalto Central. A metodologia de investigação utilizada tem por base a análise quantitativa e qualitativa. Foram recolhidos dados quantitativos e efetuada uma entrevista semiestruturada, com a posterior análise estatística e de conteúdo. Observa-se que o CFB contribuiu para a transformação profunda da geografia económica, desencravou regiões e assegurou mercados para produtos manufaturados das indústrias dos países mais desenvolvidos. Além disso, o CFB deu início a novas povoações que estiveram na origem de vilas e cidades. Conclui-se que, num futuro próximo, o CFB pode assumir um papel fundamental no desenvolvimento e diversificação da economia angolana, em particular no Planalto Central.^len^aThe objective of this paper is to analyze the importance of the Benguela Railway (CFB) for Angola’s regional development, particularly in its central highlands. The research methodology is based on quantitative and qualitative analysis. Quantitative data were collected and an semi-structured interview was conducted with statistical and content analysis. We observe that the CFB contributed to a profound transformation of economic geography, connecting regions and assuring markets for manufactured products from the industries of more developed countries. Also, the CFB has initiated new settlements that have led to present towns and cities. We conclude that, in a near future, CFB may have a fundamental role in the Angolan economic development and diversification, particularly in its central highlands.
