The aim of this study was to characterize exports of the Northeast of Rio Grande do Sul and far West of Santa Catarina, and investigate their importance for local development. Based on analysis of the thematic documentation content, the study revealed that local exporters do not appear among main exporters of Santa Catarina, but as for Rio Grande do Sul two companies show up. Main local exports are concentrated in the furniture sector (43.53% of total). In the Northeast of Rio Grande do Sul, agribusiness is prevailing, mainly in the sector of production within the farm boundaries, with a very strong metal-mechanic industry which accounts for 62.89% of regional economy, followed by agroindustry of vegetal oil extraction which represents 13.95%.
