PIRES, Luís Madureira. Thirty years of Structural Funds in Portugal (1986-2015). []. , 53, pp.19-38. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2017.53a03.

Since Portugal joined the European Communities in 1986 until today, the country has received around 100 billion financial resources from the Structural Funds. This amount was allocated for investments in infrastructures, business competitiveness and human capital, which aimed to meet the principles of economic and social cohesion. This article will provide a brief overview of the application of these funds and their evolution over the last 30 years, in order to highlight, for each of the five Cohesion Policy programming periods (three Community support frameworks, the NSRF and Portugal 2020), which priorities were established and the most emblematic projects that were funded.

: Structural Funds; Community support frameworks; economic development; European integration.
