^lpt^aImpõe‑se avaliar os efeitos dos Fundos Estruturais(Fundos) na evolução económica e social que Portugal tem registado, mesmo sabendo que este tipo de exercício produz sempre resultados limitados. Apesar disso, é possível obter uma perceção razoável de aspetos importantes desses efeitos através da análise de alguns indicadores relevantes da aplicação dos Fundos, acompanhada da observação do desempenho global da economia. Essa abordagem, para a qual se procura aqui dar uma pequena contribuição na perspetiva da eficiência e da competitividade, permitirá pôr à prova o comportamento do proclamado «bom aluno» da «escola europeia». A análise mostra resultados muito insuficientes neste domínio.^len^aThere is a need to evaluate the effects of EU Structural Funds in Portugal. The findings of such exercise are always limited, but it is possible to get a reasonable perception of some important aspects of these effects, through the analysis of relevant indicators of the Funds use, combined with the assessment of the overall performance of the national economy. This approach, for which this paper aims to contribute, from the efficiency and competitiveness viewpoint, offers the possibility of testing the behavior of the trumped “first row student” of the “European school”. The study shows very insufficient results in this field.
