BASTOS, Laura. Turkey and the struggle for relevance in a «post-American» world. []. , 60, pp.57-68. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2018.60a04.

The Arab Spring shattered Ankara’s discourse that presented Turkey as a key actor in the Middle East and a democratic model that would contribute for peace in the region. In the following years, Turkish foreign policy was defined by a lack of a clear guideline and for short term responses to the events in the Middle East. Currently, under the presidency of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey is trying to reestablish itself, leaving behind the idealism of Davutoglu’s foreign policy. Ankara focuses now on strengthening strategic alliances with several actors, namely with Russia, but Turkey doesn’t abandon the alliances with the United States or the European Union.
