LEITE, Iara Costa    GAYARD, Nicole Aguilar. Four approaches to the interaction between scientists and states in international relations. []. , 62, pp.85-101. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2019.62a07.

This article presents and contrasts four approaches to the interaction between scientists and states in international relations: the Science Diplomacy approach, according to which international scientific collaboration is influenced by state strategies; the Epistemic Communities approach, which argues that international expert networks can influence cooperation between states; the Network approach, according to which international scientific cooperation exhibits dynamics of their own, being little influenced by states; and the Transnational approach, which recognizes the agency of scientists in international collaboration, but reaffirms the importance of states in their promotion. By introducing a typology of approaches that come from different areas in social sciences the article aims at contributing to the advancement of multidisciplinary research focused on the interaction between science and international relations.
