This paper aims to verify whether there is any kind of relationship between state fragility and terrorist activities. Based on the hypothesis that these two variables have no causal relationship, this research compared data on state fragility from the Fund for Peace’s Fragile States Index with indicators on the impact of terrorism on fragile countries, according to the Global Terrorism Index, produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace. Upon comparing data from the last ten years, both for countries that saw the highest increases in their fragility scores and for those most impacted by terrorism in the period, this study found no causal relationship between the increase in state fragility and the higher impact of terrorism activities.
