The aim of the present study was o assess the quality of life of patients undergoing bariatric surgery. A cross-sectional quantitative analysis was applied on a public hospital at Fortaleza/CE, with 112 participants that underwent bariatric surgery. Two questionnaires were applied: BAROS and a series of socioeconomical questions. 83% of the sample were females, 53,3% did not completed high-school, with a minimum wage up- to 3 base salaries and a mean age of 43,84 years. Mean BMI pre-surgery was 51,02Kg/m² and it was 33,4 Kg/m² post-surgery. Among the sample, 46,4% underwent surgery for more than 5 years and 69,4& reported a better quality of life post-surgery. BMI and financial income seemed to influence the quality of life of patients, showing significant differences. It was concluded that bariatric surgery might promote a positive impact on the quality of life of patients.
