^lpt^aPara se modelar o ciclo de vida das localidades dependentes do turismo religioso é imprescindível, entre outras acções, proceder a um levantamento exaustivo dos estudos que contemplem o turismo religioso, de forma a sistematizar a informação dispersa e avançar sugestões que permitam ultrapassar as lacunas encontradas e criar sinergias entre as análises existentes. Neste sentido, propõe-se a apresentação da síntese das estatísticas editadas até 2006, caracterizando a oferta e a procura, a nível do segmento em questão. Sublinhe-se que muitos dos dados apresentados estão desactualizados, contemplando-se, quando tal acontece, sobretudo a abordagem feita pelos diferentes autores. Neste contexto, pretende chamar-se a atenção para a importância dos estudos feitos, alertando os investigadores e os agentes activos das áreas visadas para a premência da sua repetição e comparação com os resultados obtidos em períodos anteriores.^len^aThe definition of a model to the lifecycle of religious tourism destinations is fully indebted, among others, to a thorough literature revision of religious tourism research. Such revision must be conducted in a way such as to systematize scattered and formerly unrelated information and to overcome existing information gaps. Only thus can we attain synergies among existing analyses. Hence, I will present an article advancing a synthesis of all statistics issued until 2006 and characterizing the demand and offer, as far as this segment is concerned. Many of the available data are no longer updated. In such cases, I shall place the emphasis on the approach taken by the respective authors, for what they still contribute to the expertise in this field. Within this background, I wish to draw the attention to the relevance of research already at hand, while, at the same time, I urge researchers and active agents in the field to repeat survey actions and promote result comparison between formerly existing and new data.
