Background:

Interpersonal relationships have influence in the quality of the nursing care, being the nurse one of the leading figures within this relationship. Proven the impact of emotional intelligence in the enhancement of skills that improve the interpersonal dynamics, it becomes emergent, in a relations based profession, to identify the strategies that facilitate the emotional intelligence in nurses.

Aim:

To identify strategies that promote the emotional intelligence in nurses.

Methods:

Integrative literature review. Research on international data bases integrated into EBSCOhost® and B-ON® online platforms, carried out in November 2019. It was applied a set of descriptors in english: Strategies; Techniques; Emotional Intelligence; Nursing; Nurses, validated in Medical Subjet Heading (Mesh) and Descritores em Ciências da Saúde (DeCs). Four articles were published between 2014 and 2019.

Results:

Identification of multiple promoting strategies for the development of personal and social skills, such as: reflective learning, reflective group activities, experiential activities, deepening of emotional intelligence competence.

Conclusions:

The use of the identified strategies promotes the emotional intelligence. However, this process is not hermetic, it requires training and constant analysis of the nurse’s practice, as well as, improving behaviors through the enhancement of personal and social skills.
