Fanconi Anemia is a rare recessive disorder clinically associated with a progressive bone marrow failure, hypersensitivity to oxidative damage and consequent increased predisposition to cancer. The importance of the nutritionist in clinical monitoring of patients begins to be consensual. The disorders in the digestive tract experienced by patients as well as the chronic inflammatory state and drug therapy contribute to the prevalence of underweight and malnutrition. However, cases of obesity and metabolic syndrome are also being reported in patients with Fanconi anemia. This condition is often associated with glucose intolerance and dyslipidemia for which they exhibit greater predisposition. Nutritional therapy begins to occupy an important place in the treatment of these patients due to a few studies that have demonstrated potential benefits of an intervention with antioxidants (such as alpha-lipoic acid and N-acetylcysteine) in patients with Fanconi anemia. Although the need for further studies about it still remains, it is assumed that dietary intervention should be part of clinical monitoring of patients with Fanconi anemia not only for a treatment aimed at increasing life expectancy, but essentially to improve the life quality of patients.
