SANTOS, Diana    JORGE, Rui. THE ROLE OF CRANBERRY IN THE PREVENTION OF URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS: A NARRATIVE REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE. []. , 30, pp.46-52.   05--2023. ISSN 2183-5985.  https://doi.org/10.21011/apn.2022.3008.

Cranberries have been tested as an effective nutritional supplement in the prevention of urinary tract infections, being considered a natural alternative to antibiotic therapy. This fruit is rich in flavonoids, which appear to be involved in reducing the prevalence and symptoms of urinary tract infections. It appears that the efficacy of its active compounds in bacterial prevention depends on whether it is ingested in the form of berries, juice, capsules, tablets, or gelatinised products.

The main objectives of this narrative literature review focused on two main points: (1) reviewing the arguments in the literature on the role of cranberries in the prevention of urinary tract infections; (2) identifying which cranberry-based products are more effective in the prevention of this type of infection.
