INTRODUCTION:

The Food-drug/nutrient interaction is a phenomenon that deserves careful reflection on the part of health professionals, especially those who prescribe, dispense, and advise medicines or foods in their area of intervention. It is extremely important that professionals working in this area know the chemical characteristics that exist between these substances, so that they can avoid possible interactions between them, and consequently, guarantee the therapeutic success of each patient.

OBJECTIVES:

Characterization of the Health professionals' knowledge, particularly in the area of pharmacy and in the area of nutrition, about food-drug interaction.

METHODOLOGY:

Qualitative Study, using a structured closed survey by questionnaire, sent to Health professionals that are confronted with the potential risks that descend from the interaction of medicines and food.

RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS:

The analysis of the results obtained through the questionnaires, demonstrate that professional in the pharmaceutical area, have a lack of knowledge about the interactions that may occur between medicines and foods. Although with some knowledge gaps, the results obtained demonstrate that nutritionists demonstrate greater knowledge about this subject. Considering the results obtained, and in order to optimize the use of the medicine as a health technology, it is important to develop mechanisms that contribute to increase the knowledge of health professionals about the interactions between medicines and foods.
