REZENDE, Isabel et al. Food allergy to coconut. []. , 32, 1, pp.1-5.   31--2024. ISSN 0871-9721.  https://doi.org/10.32932/rpia.2024.03.134.

IgE mediated coconut allergy is rare, with cases described in the literature of anaphylactic and non-anaphylactic reactions, the second being more prevalent. Case description: adult patient with coconut allergy, diagnosed with positive coconut challenge test and molecular study by SDS-PAGE immunoblotting, in which IgE-binding proteins were detected. Due to their molecular mass, they may be the coconut globulins 7S and 11S. Discussion/conclusions: 7S and 11S globulins are coconut storage proteins, probably associated with severe allergic reactions, and are strongly implicated by the authors as potential contributors to the severe allergic reactions described in the case. Although coconut allergy is rare, the widespread use of this ingredient in different types of products (food and cosmetics) makes it an entity to be considered.
