GASPAR, Dina; JESUS, Saul Neves de e CRUZ, José Pestana. General and family practice doctors vocational training in Portugal: adaptation study of a professional motivation scale. Rev. Port. Sau. Pub. [online]. 2010, vol.28, n.1, pp.67-78. ISSN 0870-9025.
The aim of this study is to analyze the adaptation process and the study of the psychometric properties of a measurement instrument used in the evaluation of the professional motivation of a population of Portuguese doctors. The final version is build on 57 Likert scales items, grouped in seven components or short scales, that describe the main constructs involved in motivational process. Applied to a sample of 109 doctors, on a post graduated vocational training in Family Medicine Internship, the results of the adaptation, and its validation, suggest that we used an adequate methodology. The study shows a reliable, valid and sensitive instrument, suggesting that the scale is an independent and specific framework, recommended to evaluate the strategies used by the medical trainees in their motivational process, in a specialty that is crucial for a Primary Care health system.
