VAZ, Ana Paula; GREGORIO, Tiago; BARBOSA, Alice e AMORIM, Adelina. Cutaneous Tuberculosis in Immunocompromise Patient. Arq Med [online]. 2010, vol.24, n.4, pp.137-140. ISSN 2183-2447.
Incidence of tuberculosis in immunocompromised patients has been rising, including cutaneous, a rare manifestation that accounts for 1.5% of all forms of disease. We described a case of a 77-year-old man, on chronic systemic corticotherapy, with disseminated tuberculosis involving lung and lymph nodes that presented with subcutaneous nodules resulting from continuity and haematogenous/lymphatic infection spread, respectively in forms of scrofuloderma on the neck and metastatic abscess of the hand. Isolation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in skin exudates culture allowed definite diagnosis and antituberculous therapy a favourable evolution and therefore a good prognosis. Purpose of this case is to point out attention to rarity of cutaneous involvement in tuberculosis and importance of diagnosis suspicion in face of diversity of clinical manifestations.
