Dear colleagues and friends,
In this edition of Acta Radiológica Portuguesa, you will find two new headings, under the responsibility of the Paleoradiology and Non-destructive testing by X-rays and Interventional Radiology sections.
In the first, entitled “Visual abstracts about Radiology and the Past: Secrets unveiled”, fascinating cases will be illustrated that demonstrate the capacity of our imaging methods to unveil the secrets of the past, examining archaeological artifacts and cultural remains. We intend to make Portuguese Radiology aware of this area of study, which contributes to enriching the historical and cultural heritage of Humanity.
In the second, entitled “State-of-the-art Interventional Radiology - Selected Cases”, you can find cases that demonstrate the innovative intervention procedures performed by Portuguese Interventional Radiology. These cases are selected among the best “Cases of the Month” by the Associação Portuguesa de Radiologia de Intervenção (APRI), due to their didactic and captivating value, illustrating innovative techniques, challenging clinical presentations and complex procedures. This section aims to illustrate the best that is done in Portuguese Interventional Radiology, and we hope that it will appeal to the community.
I also use of this Editorial to announce the creation of our journal’s scientific article review fellowship: “ARP Review Fellowships”, which aims to provide training in scientific article review for Radiologists. The vast majority of Radiologists who contribute to the peer review process have never been trained to do so. As such, it is natural for a reviewer to feel intimidated when faced with a review request, especially if the content of the article does not completely fall within their technical-scientific domain. This fellowship aims to provide initial experience to reviewers, and tools that allow them to carry out reviews in a systematic, complete and assertive way. The application process will be announced soon.
Finally, I would like to invite you all to CNR 2024, which will take place from the 8th to the 11th of May in Peniche. This CNR will be dedicated to the topics of Emergency and Oncology, which are certainly of interest to the entire Portuguese Radiological community. It also includes the pre-congress course: CNR meets APRI, dedicated to Interventional Radiology. I hope to see you there!
