Resumen
MARTINS, Fernando. Historiography, biography and ethics . Anál. Social [online]. 2004, n.171, pp.391-408. ISSN 0003-2573.
This article argues that it is possible and desirable to commit to a form of historical discourse which, in addition to conveying a message based on clear moral values, and without that implying any gratuitous moralizing, combats the amoralism and the relativism which have established themselves in most of academe, especially in the realm of the so-called human and social sciences and in history itself, and particularly when the latter is found in promiscuous intimacy with the former. The article emphasises the fact that amoralism and relativism in academe have major negative implications far beyond its confines, implications which undermine the liberal and democratic nature of a whole society.
