Abstract

GABRIEL, Eduardo. The international expansion of charismatic brazilian catholicism. Anál. Social [online]. 2009, n.190, pp.189-207. ISSN 0003-2573.

Religious expansion from the Southern to the Northern countries, which is called the missionary reflux (or reverse flow), is a phenomenon which has been much discussed in work on transnational religious mobility. This article is a contribution to this debate: it examines the expansion of charismatic Brazilian catholicism with the arrival in Portugal of the Canção Nova community, providing some guidelines for analyzing the tensions between Portuguese catholicism and Brazilian catholicism.

Keywords : Religious mobility; Charismatic Catholic Renewal; catholicism.
