Abstract

MONTEIRO, Rosa. The decriminalization of abortion in Portugal: State, women’s movements and political parties. Anál. Social [online]. 2012, n.204, pp.586-605. ISSN 0003-2573.

This paper analyses the political agenda of the decriminalization of abortion in Portugal, its genealogy, agents, critical aspects, and results. It highlights the role of the main equality organism, in conjunction with the women’s movements, as well as the role of political parties. It also seeks to explain the factors that constrained the actions of those several agents on this issue and that contributed to the delay, until 2007, in producing significant results.

Keywords : equality policies; abortion; State feminism; women’s movements.
