Abstract

DOMINGUES, Petrônio. Agitating race, reinventing the nation: the reparations movement in Brazil. Anál. Social [online]. 2018, n.227, pp.332-361. ISSN 0003-2573.  https://doi.org/10.31447/AS00032573.2018227.04.

The article makes some notes about the Movimento Pelas Reparações (MPR) of African descendants in Brazil in the 1990s. It is argued that besides expressing how Afro-Brazilians were (and are) connected in struggles and demands waged in the transatlantic circuit of the black diaspora, this movement prepared the way for the current policy of affirmative action in the country.

Keywords : African diaspora; Afro-Brazilian population; reparations; affirmative action; social movements.
