Abstract

PASSAMANI, Guilherme R.; ROSA, Marcelo Victor da  and  ALAMAN, Jônatas Stritar. Brazilian escorts in Lisbon: Traffics, desires, and business from sexual economics in transnational contexts. Anál. Social [online]. 2022, n.243, pp.256-279.  Epub June 30, 2022. ISSN 0003-2573.  https://doi.org/10.31447/as00032573.2022243.03.

This essay approaches Brazilian male escorts’ displacements, desires, and negotiations within transnational sexual economies. Therefore, we analyze a single interlocutor’s trajectory in Lisbon, Portugal. At a first glance, we present his strategies and experiences in Brazil regarding sexual work approximations and pursuances. Subsequently, based on his experiences and social relations regarding sex work, we highlight the male sex work dynamics in Portugal. Thereafter, Portuguese expectations, the racialization of desire, local sex market particularities, and displacements between European countries within lifelong projects, migratory processes, and desire circulations sustained by our single interlocutor will be highlighted in this essay.

Keywords : escorts; sex work; sex economies; racialization; Portugal.
