Abstract

FISCHER, Marta Luciane; GANG, Jessica de  and  ROSANELI, Caroline Filla. The social representation of animal protein consumption and alternatives for substitution: a bioethical analysis. Anál. Social [online]. 2022, n.243, pp.310-331.  Epub June 30, 2022. ISSN 0003-2573.  https://doi.org/10.31447/as00032573.2022243.05.

Emerging paradigms on ethical consumption of meat and replacement alternatives require a bioethical reflection to understand the social relations between sentience and animal welfare. This study seeks to understand how Brazilian society represents animal production, meat consumption, and alternatives to replace its consumption. For this, an online survey was conducted with 330 participants from Brazil. The results suggest that variables such as age, sex, and education level influence the representation of meat consumption and demonstrate that Brazilian society believes that reducing consumption is more feasible than adhering to alternatives.

Keywords : bioethics; animal welfare; artificial meat; entomophagy; veganism.
