The article identifies the need to understand the inter-species relational dynamics around this experience. It highlights the beneficial role that companion animals may have in the lives of humans suffering from a chronic illness, as well as the role humans play when animals are chronically ill. Furthermore, it points out the importance of considering the interconnections between humans and non-humans.
