LEMOS, Sara Isabel Maciel e RODRIGUES, Liliana. The (de)medicalization of intersex bodies: from the discourses and medical practices of health professionals to the demands of intersex activists. Anál. Social [online]. 2023, n.247, pp.224-246. Epub 30-Jun-2023. ISSN 0003-2573. https://doi.org/10.31447/as00032573.2023247.02.
This article reflects on how intersexuality is understood by health professionals, on the perspectives of activists and on how countries have dealt with these issues. It is perceived that intersex variations, which in most cases do not require medical intervention, have been delegated to the bosom of medicine, witnessing a process of medicalization of intersexuality and an attempt to normalize the bodies. The expectations related to sexual dimorphism influence the discourses of health professionals, medical practices and, consequently, the lives of people.
