Abstract

BARROS, Antonio Teixeira de. The emergence of ecological parties in Portuguese-speaking countries: parallels between Brazil and Portugal. Anál. Social [online]. 2023, n.247, pp.322-362.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 0003-2573.  https://doi.org/10.31447/as00032573.2023247.06.

This article comparatively analyzes the origins of ecological parties in Brazil and Portugal. The focus of the study is party profiles, their agendas and positions regarding environmental sustainability. To this end, an analysis is made of the current programs of six Brazilian and Portuguese ecological parties, three from each country. The conclusions show that partisan profiles of systemic orientation predominate, which consider the various dimensions of sustainability, such as economic, social, ecological, cultural and spatial. In all party profiles, the State is considered the main actor in the scope of environmental governance.

Keywords : political parties; ecological parties; party environmentalism; Brazil; Portugal.
