Abstract

CARMO, Renato Miguel do. Portugal: still a dualistic society, but at an existential crossroads. Anál. Social [online]. 2023, n.249, pp.704-721.  Epub Dec 31, 2023. ISSN 0003-2573.  https://doi.org/10.31447/as00032573.2023249.04.

Based on the Adérito Sedas Nunes article, “Portugal, an evolving dualistic society”, this text presents a critical perspective on how the most decisive socio-territorial configurations have progressed in the Portuguese society since the 1960s. Despite the persistence of dualities, it also identifies a complex “puzzle” characterized by significant dynamics of social, economic, and cultural differentiation that characterize the so-called “third spatiality”, which is also evolving and reconfiguring. The final section outlines four structural challenges that point to possible paths to follow in the future.

Keywords : territories; inequalities; Portuguese society; policies.
