Abstract

MOUTINHO-PEREIRAS, J.M.; MAGALHAES, N.  and  TORRES-PEREIRA, J.M.. Physiological and agronomic behaviour of cv. Touriga Nacional in a “slope vineyard” at the Demarcated Douro Region . Ciência Téc. Vitiv. [online]. 2001, vol.16, n.2, pp.49-63. ISSN 0254-0223.

The aim of this study was to compare the vegetative and viticultural behaviour of grapevines on the upper and lower edges of a vineyard planted in the slope direction. The soil conditions of the grapevines implanted in the lower part of the plot had permitted better water conditions during the summer period. This situation had positive consequences in leaf photosynthetic capacity and had minimised the foliar senescence in the ripeness period. From an agronomical point of view, in the grapevines of the upper part of the plot, the grapes maturation index was higher but, on the other hand, the production and the Ravaz index was lower.

Keywords : soil fertility; grapevine physiology; vigour; yield; quality.
