MATOSSIAN, Brenda. Inequalities and (in)materials borders in San Carlos de Bariloche city, Patagonia Argentina. Finisterra [online]. 2018, n.107, pp.107-123. ISSN 0430-5027.  https://doi.org/10.18055/Finis11896.

The study of the cities involves different analytical challenges, one of them is how to account for polarization and deepening social inequalities of urban space. In urban studies different strategies were proposed to inquire into the growing divisions within the city. It is proposed to consider the diachronic analysis of material and symbolic boundaries as a key to understand the genesis and derivations of these processes. This approach involves a close dialogue with the modes of urban expansion, with special emphasis on the state action, from different scales and historical moments. The study case is San Carlos de Bariloche, in Patagonia. The methodological strategy seeks to reconstruct the different boundaries that have marked this city in time and from different scales; through diverse sources triangulation. Considering the geo-historical perspective, this article seeks to focus on the traces, more or less visible, that the growth of the city leaves, recognizing how the imprints of the past have defined, from a hegemonic logic, space and society sectors with more or less legitimacy on which different dimensions of the socio-territorial inequalities operate.
