LAISSONE, Elton; AMADOR, Filomena y JOAQUIM, Teresa. Theoretical reflection on the role of the university teacher and researcher in formation of a sustainable citizenship, Tete (Mozambique). Finisterra [online]. 2019, n.112, pp.163-176. ISSN 0430-5027. https://doi.org/10.18055/Finis18637.
The crisis of modern society advises researchers not to confine themselves to explaining the facts but to assume a role of social intervention in the construction of identities and senses. Thus, this study intends to discuss the role of the researcher in the formation of active and engaged citizenships in Tete (Mozambique). On the one hand, the social crisis awakens the need for local citizen intervention, and, on the other hand, the discourse on development issues points to the need to value local knowledge without losing the sense of the global. Through a theoretical reflection, supported by empirical data, we sought to discuss the ambivalence of the context and to look to the researcher as a subject who seeks the sense of being a citizen, with a view to an engaged practice, in the present and in the space in which he/she is to work.
