ARAUJO, Sílvia Lima Gonçalves. Éléments de réflexion sur la problématique générale de la thématisation dans le cadre de la théorie d’Antoine Culioli. Diacrítica [online]. 2012, vol.26, n.1, pp.6-34. ISSN 0807-8967.

If the concepts of theme and rheme, defined as «the subject you say something about»/ «what you say about it», seem to fit perfectly within the analysis of a state-ment as simple as (i) mon père a une moto hyper-rapide, they meet dificulties as soon as they come across more complex statements, such as (ii) moi, mon père, il a une moto hyper-rapide. If you want to be able to describe the informative structure of these statements, it’s important to understand that what linguists commonly call theme, speaking about thematization, corresponds, in reality, to two types of loca-tor: the starting term which is the theme in the predicative level (it’s the position you take while predicting what you predict) and the constitutive locator which is the theme at the enunciative level (it’s the position you take stating what you state). The easiest situation is where these two locators coincide, as in example (i). But, as we will try to point out, these two locators may very well not coincide. It’s especially what happens in structures putting in place a constitutive locator marked sepa-rately, which adopts the starting term, as in (ii). In fact, what we’re anxious to show, is that it’s possible to better determine what we normally call theme by referring to Culiolien concepts of location and locator.

Palavras-chave : orientation; theme; first argument; starting term; constitutive locator.
