This article identifies and analyzes unespecific Noun Phrases used as labels in a corpus constituted by textbooks of Brazil’s History. Furthermore, it proposes to discuss the degree and type of complexity of those NPs, taking into account evidence from other genres, from academic and journalistic domain. The hypothesis that the complexity of the Noun Phrase may contribute to the identification of discourse genres is our point of depart.
