This study aims to discuss the issue of Lusophone identity based on the “never before” expression used respectively by Camões in The Lusiads and by Lula, President of Brazil in his political speeches. We discuss the question of territorialization and belonging that these words evoke as an identity dynamics. We use the Derridean prerogatives of ‘bustrophedical’ way of language whose plow always brings up wastes from other stories by reusing and re-signifying signs. We question if the reusing of “never before” constitutes a vector of a continuum of Lusophone identity.
