SANTOS, Rita; FREITAS, Maria João y VELOSO, João. Consonant clusters in primary school: phonological development and orthographic knowledge. Diacrítica [online]. 2014, vol.28, n.1, pp.407-436. ISSN 0807-8967.
This paper is focused on possible correlations between two of the different types of linguistic knowledge enrolled in an educational context: the implicit phonological knowledge and the orthographic knowledge. We thus describe and discuss oral and written productions of two types of consonantal sequences in European Portuguese produced by monolingual children attending the 1st and 4th grades of two elementary schools in Portugal: branching Onsets (sequence of obstruent+liquid) and consonant clusters referred in the literature as problematic strings (sequences of plosive+plosive, plosive+nasal, plosive+fricative, nasal+nasal, fricative+ plosive).
Palabras clave : language acquisition; phonological development; orthographic knowledge development; syllabic complexity; European Portuguese.
